FAQs

  • BTC has painted beloved family cabins, the views from wedding proposal locations, vistas from memorable backpacking trips, and ski resorts where people spent some of the most treasured seasons of their lives.

We’ve done many favorite views for clients, iconic landscapes and mountain peaks, and seasonal spotlights that highlight the magic of a particular time of year.

BTC welcomes all landscapes and special views from anywhere around the world. If you have a place in mind, we’d love to help you bring it into your space!

  • Pricing is based on the size, as well as the complexity and specificity of your design. We work with you to identify your preferred artwork size, view, and seasonality. From there, you can layer on additional elements, for example your unique family cabin or a favorite ski resort's summit tram.

A deposit of 50% is due once you confirm the design choices, before we start work on your artwork.

Please have a look at our collaboration pricing guide for more details. We’re happy to chat through any other questions with you, too.

  • Many of our paintings are done on stained 1/4" plywood panels. We love the warmth and interest the wood grain gives to the negative space around the painted scene. Being painted directly on wood and then sealed with a clear, matte varnish makes these paintings really durable as well. However we are able to do paintings or other surfaces too, such as canvas or paper if that is your preference. Just let us know what you are looking for!

As for the paintings themselves, we use a mix of mediums. Professional grade Liquitex acrylic paint, Prismacolor Premier alcohol ink markers, and Micron fineliner pens for the details.

  • We do! We paint indoor wall murals, and can also do paintings on other materials such as paper or canvas if that is something you would prefer.

  • We use professional quality Liquitex acrylic paint, and then every painting is coated with three coats of matte varnish. Once the paint is dry it essentially becomes a solid piece of latex, and thus is impervious even to water.

We have done a mural in a bathroom, which, being a very high humidity environment, subjects the paint to a lot of moisture and temperature changes, and it has no issues withstanding those stressors. Hung on a wall, your painting should last a lifetime.

  • Yes, within reason. We can definitely accommodate requests such as wanting a dark stain, or having the frame painted black or white instead of stained.

Matching an exact color of stain is generally not possible, as each piece of wood can take stain differently, and the precise color may not be available. We will offer some suggestions based on what we think looks best with the different colors and elements within your painting.

  • It depends on how many other projects we have lined up, but the timeline is generally around 2-4 months from when you contact us to when it is ready to ship. If you have a specific deadline let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

  • Once your artwork is complete and framed, we professionally pack it up to send direct to you or your chosen recipient.

Shipping is handled via UPS and includes insurance that covers the full value of your painting. We share package tracking information with you as soon as we have that information in-hand.

  • I got into art at a young age with coloring contests and school art classes, and it has always been something that I have loved doing.

As I grew up, I found myself drawn (pun intended) to the outdoors and the wild places, whether in the mountains of southeast Alaska, or the cattails by the pond down the street. I often tried to capture the world around me through art, at first with drawing, watercolor, even cut paper, and then later found my groove with mixed media centered around acrylic paint.

  • While our primary focus at Bear Tree Creative is painted landscapes, Andy also has a knack and a passion for creating adorable, often awkward animal characters.

We call these characters the Bewilder Critter Crew and you can find them on ready-made products like calendars and prints. They are a favorite among our clients for decorating kids’ rooms!

Some of our digital design commissions also feature this lighthearted style. If you are interested in a collaboration in this realm, please reach out and we’ll see what we can do.

  • We do occasionally do both logo design and tattoo design, but both are on a case by case basis.

We have some limitations with what we are able to provide in terms of file types for logos, however if you are interested in having us design your branding (whether for your business or on your body) reach out to us with your ideas! We’re always happy to chat through ideas.

  • Yes! If you have a cause you are looking to support, let us know what you are looking for and we can have a conversation about it.

  • Andy: I think my favorite place would have to be Glacier National Park. The rugged mountains and knife edge ridges surrounded by towering pines, larches, and aspens. The glittering blue glacial lakes with pebble shorelines of every color of rock you can imagine and the wild huckleberries. The grizzly bears, moose and eagles, and the fields of beargrass flowers in the spring. It's just one of the most magical, wild places I've ever been.

Megan: At this moment in my life, my favorite outdoor place is a spot along the Poudre River in Fort Collins, CO where I live. The cliff ridge above the water is home to all sorts of hawks and other birds and the big, old cottonwood trees along the shore remind me of the many people and animals who have refreshed themselves in these rapids before me. I feel grounded and connected to the land every time I’m there.

  • I'm pretty sure his spine is made from an actual slinky. :)
